Gordon Freeman awoke with a gasp as he realized he wasn't dead. He looked around and noticed that he was back in the test chamber. After getting to his feet and seeing the devastation that had occurred within the chamber Freeman began to wonder how the rest of Sector C was affected if not the whole facility. The orange clad physicist noticed that the blast doors he went though had been blown open probably from the energy surge caused by the Resonance Cascade. He was just about to make his way over to them when his ears heard the sound of a moan coming from beneath a pile of rubble next to the ramp leading to the blast doors.
The young scientist practically staggered his way over to the debris while saying, "Hang in there, I'll get you out!"
Freeman could have sworn when the voice moaned again that it sounded quite young. Although he disregarded that when he began to remove the rubble. When he was halfway through he saw what looked like a white gloved hand with a cyan blue symbol and a golden wrist cuff. After clearing the remainder of the debris Freeman was quite shocked to see that what he rescued was definitely not human. The creature was a sort of anthropomorphic hedgehog with white fur and a set of quills, five of which sat on it's forehead that stood up in the form of what Freeman thought was a cannabis plant when he realized was actually a Japanese Maple Leaf. The hedgehog was also wearing a pair of boots with aqua blue tips and gold ankle cuffs that were similar in design to the ones around the creature's wrists.
When the hedgehog opened it's eyes he was being stared at by two golden yellow orbs. The creature tried to stand but cried out in pain which caused Freeman to snap out of his trance and lifted it up into his arms and was surprised that it was lighter than what he expected. Freeman then carried the hedgehog bridal style through the bulkhead and stopped in front of the security door. Then the hedgehog spoke to Freeman and said, "Who are you and what happened here?" Aside from the fear in the creature's voice he also noticed that it sounded male and from how young it sounded the hedgehog was probably no older than thirteen or maybe fourteen. All the scientist said was, "Gordon Freeman, and as far as I can tell I'm not sure what happened but I think it might get worse before it gets better." The hedgehog then said, "Alright, I think I can stand on my own now." Freeman placed the hedgehog on it's feet and it stumbled for a bit before steadying himself. Wasting no time Gordon went over to the retinal scanner. Despite the amount of damage it sustained it was still operational. Freeman looked into the scanner and the door opened albiet rather slowly and then he went through with the hedgehog in tow.
They both stopped in their tracks when they saw a security guard laying on his back with blood pouring out from a head wound and a scientist, who didn't look any better, was desperately trying to revive him with CPR. He looked up at the two and froze at the sight of the hedgehog creature. The first thing the scientist said was, "God help us all."
